My name is Kathryn, I’m based in the Pacific-Nortwest and this is my personal blog. There’s no actual theme other than being the outlet for sharing my vast amounts of experience and knowledge to the world. I enjoy lots of hobbies - climbing, hiking, foreign languages (Swedish and German), travel, writting, coding, film photography, cooking, oil painting, reading books, and geology things (admiring pretty rocks and dykes). I tend to write whatever I’d like because the SEO overlords demand waaay too much limitations. Anyway have some fun facts about me:

  • I made a brief appearence and speech at the United Nations in 2019, regarding sustianable production and consumption
  • Early tester of Google Glass
  • Traveled to 28 countries
  • Speaks English, German, Swiss German, and Swedish
  • Worked as an independent consultant between 2014-2018

I generally don’t like social media (namely Facebook and X), so you won’t find me much anywhere else other than Instagram (instagram_developer) and Bluesky (alwayslatekate).

FAQ

Q: What is the blog hosted on? What’s Hugo?
A: Hugo is a static site generator. It’s free and open source (FOSS). I use Hugo to generate pages/posts then push the generated content to Github. Afterwards Github Actions push the public directory to Firebase, which makes this blog serverless. Primary advantage is that I have little upkeep and dead-simple usage (it uses Markdown Language). Here’s the little guide I followed to setup this blog https://medium.com/@gabrock94/a-server-less-blog-with-hugo-and-firebase-3cadfa303a5c

Q: What music do you listen to?
A: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1nppE6zvO6eOJOYE9TDrun?si=096860dd770e4e45 that or whatever cassette tapes I’ve acquired for my Sony Walkman.

Q: What is your favourite rock?
A: Anthracite! Dense, shiny, and dark plus it was my first rock in my collection.

Q: What is your favourite country you’ve visited?
A: Switzerland - it’s pretty with some historical quirks and good food. I like to go hiking in the alps and seeing the cows!

Q: If you could travel back in time and tell yourself something, what would it be?
A: That I should change majors. That or work harder on going to graduate school immediately after I graduated college. Those were some awful months after graduation.

Q: What is your favourite book?
A: One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. Lesbian smut has been a good genre that threw me back into reading again.

Q: What do you do on your free time?
A: Write personal blog posts, twice a week go bouldering, oil painting, code fun little projects, and play Minecraft. Occasionally, I will pop a cassette into my player and relax in peace.
