Archaeology
Okay, so, I’ve been going down this deep hole of archaeology. It’s honestly super interesting hearing about the techniques, the different principles, and the stuff they find. I really can’t describe just how awesome it is that archaeologists put so much information out there on the internet about their field. I also had the Jamestown Rediscovery Dig Deeper series playing for most of the day in the background while I worked on project stuff. A good series to watch if you’re interested in history and such. It’s a topic I can’t stop looking at.
I learned about context (primary and secondary), matrices, trowels and trowelling technique, and stratigraphy in archaeology. Also the details about the National Historic Preservation Act was a great read. I also found a neat little event called “Archaeology Roadshow”, which is being hosted at Portland State University in May. It basically educates and promotes the idea of archaeology to the public in Oregon. I’m probably going to schedule some time in May to stop by the event.
Graduate school
I kept working on graduate school paperwork - even though I have like six months to a year to get this sorted out for admissions, I think this will give me a good head start. I’ve been writing my Statement of Purpose and scholarship essays for a particular graduate school. I won’t say which one yet (if you know, then you’re likely following my other secret blog) but it’s a place I’ve been meaning to go to from the very beginning of my graduate school goal journey.
Right- yeah, I’ve been meaning to go to graduate school since 2019 when I graduated from undergrad. I won’t go too much into the details in this post, but it’s been a convoluted journey with missed personal deadlines and freak events.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow is another rainy day in the Pacific-Northwest. It’s just that season.
I’m obviously going to remain indoors most of the day unless climate change decides to make the day sunny. I plan on going to the bouldering gym to make today a three climb day week. Makes my monthly prepaid membership worth it a bit more heh! I mean really it’s just an addiction of mine. There’s a couple V2s on my mind still that I really want to send. Then perhaps getting one V3 would be cool too.
I also need to refuel the car- not looking forward to it. The petrol prices here in Washington/Oregon are awful as a former New Yorker. Also I drove my car back home on a dangerously low amount in my rush to get back and make dinner. So I might have to station-hop to get a cheaper price down the road or risk running out of petrol getting there.. UGH.
I might also swing by Tandy Leather near the airport to get some craft leather. I want to make a good sheath for my geology pick, and perhaps get some spare pieces for future field tools. Thinking of riveting things together instead of sewing them. It would be easier and more durable, but requires special tools (?)
Anyway, here’s to hoping tomorrow is a good and easy day
Keep me in primary context, not secondary
