Beyond yesterday
So I’ve been very busy lately. You can probably see that with the lack of posts. I will try to run down through those couple of months the best I can with some notable events and broad summarization of what’s happened.
First off, I finally found a job! I don’t know how much I talked about this situation, but I moved to Portland without any job lined up. This was a huge gamble since I estimated that I would only be able to live on my savings for about three months. Unfortunately, the tech sector decided to go into a recession right as I was leaving my job. In told, I basically spent my entire 401K and then some more for the past six months. I was luckily able to score a remote job at a small software company. Its been amazing so far and I’m glad I was able to land this opportunity just in time.
This will hopefully begin my long and arduous process to dig myself out of this hole. Ideally, I want to have my vehicle repaired to last for at least the next year. There’s a lot of repairs that need to be done and I’m not looking forward to spending that money. At least I can then go climbing whenever I want without panicking about traffic.
Oh, another thing- I’m getting my hair bleached and coloured to be more of a hazel with a blonde balayage. I love the look of blonde (also admittedly, most of my blonde friends are super cute and I’m jealous) but can’t immediately commit to it. So, I guess this was just a compromise for now.
Yesterday
Yesterday I did a lot of activity- wow. I didn’t realize just how much my system needed to get exercise, but yeah, being inside for most of the two weeks due to the heat wave must have made me need that. I went bouldering in the morning for a couple hours. I think I sent more than a dozen routes in those two hours? Don’t know, but I did a lot of climbing within a short amount of time. Felt great to be back doing one of my favourite hobbies!
Then afterwards I went out for a little riverside relaxation with friends. We went to a spot along the river which required a bit of a hike. That hike was a good 1.25 miles each way so that was another exercise activity I had logged. I love the hike though! Pretty nature and a good little trek. We did have to climb down and up a steep drop, which felt a little dangerous.
The relaxation by the river was great. I didn’t go into the water too much just because I wanted to relax that time. I did step into the water, and it felt refreshingly cold. Besides that, I relaxed on the sand near the river and read a book on archaeology while near my wonderful friends.
Once I returned home, I watched ‘I Saw The TV Glow’ to catch up with my friends. It was a really good film. I loved the cinematography and the figurative nature of it. I think it’s a new favourite film of mine now. The film was also very emotional and to be honest- fucked my mind up a bit just with how hard it hit me. Maybe this deserves a post of its own?
Plans for the day
I don’t have many plans since yesterday wore me out. I was thinking of swinging by IKEA for some organizers, but it would be a waste of fuel to pop down into Portland just for one place. The heat is also still a thing in the PNW, so driving around has been awful in a black vehicle.
Don’t know what else to do with today besides relax. Might actually buy Elden Ring or Celeste to get something to do in these calm times.
With chalk hands and hair bleach,
Kathryn
